Poverty is sexist. Lamentingly, like most burdens, it disproportionately affects girls who face the greatest risks due to it and fight the toughest battles.
Getting an education is the most effective way for millions of girls to escape poverty, abuse, early marriage, and early pregnancy. Yet, in India, nearly 40 percent of adolescent girls do not attend school. To put this in perspective, if this number was a country, it would be the 10th largest country in the world!
Needless to say, this isn’t just unfair, it's a travesty. If you’d like to raise your awaaz about it, we encourage you to apply to Youth Ki Awaaz’s award-winning Writers’ Training Programme, a 5-week integrated bootcamp where we’ll be training a select cohort of 10 participants in researching, reporting and writing impactful stories on girls’ access to education. The programme is free of cost and designed for anyone (age no bar!) with a passion for writing and changemaking, and willing to devote 6-8 hours per week for the same.
If you get selected for the program, here’s what’s in store for you:
- One-on-one mentorship from a YKA editor.
- Personalized feedback on all your stories.
- A chance to get published and build a portfolio of stories.
- The opportunity to become an Action Network Fellow with Youth Ki Awaaz (basis your performance during the WTP).
- Access to a network of writers and campaigners with a shared passion for writing and changemaking.
- A certificate at the end of your journey.
- You can work from anywhere - all you need is a story idea, a computer and a stable internet connection, and you are good to go.
Program Expectation:
Through the course of the programme, participants are expected to produce 3 stories on the issue they select at the beginning of the programme.
How to apply:
Just fill out this form, detailing an issue/story idea related to girls’ education that you’d like to report on/write about. Make it as detailed as possible. If you clear the first round, we will interview you for the final selection.
