When it comes to how the people around us are assimilating into Western society, a lot of things are truly getting out of hand. One of the main issues is how schools discourage students from speaking Hindi, which is their native dialect, especially in north India. Many schools punish students for speaking in Hindi, and in my opinion, this just encourages a sense of cultural inferiority in young people.
Students are supervised by Spoken English Monitors who push them to exclusively speak English. I am aware that communication in English is necessary for the modern, expanding globe, but not at the expense of one's own tongue.
Many kids around me feel ashamed if one of their parents does not have a good command over their English and speaks in Hindi and that is not fair at all. This Hindi-speaking stigma needs to be broken and we should embrace our culture more.
