By Divya Ruth Jose
A curse! A curse!
To be born and be nursed
To the sound of chains unbroken
The smoke and the dust
Dreams turned to rust
With hope long forgotten
No chance to be heard
A slogan without words
Empty promises drowning out our cries for help
While the days, they drag on
We keep time with the dawn
Trudging along to our misery song

Double double
The toil and trouble
As we work to pay off these debts
Made to bend till we break
For a few rupees sake
Our futures hanging by a thread
Generations carrying scars
While some escape the bars
We reap not what we’ve sown
Tipping in our favour
never
This game called life
goes on forever
For the sun doesn’t shine on us all the same way.
